Veganism is going mainstream b*tches! Hey there it’s emily from bite size vegan and welcome to another vegan nugget! For those of you who don’t know, israel is on the fast track to become the world’s first vegan nation. And they took a huge step this week when a vegan activist won israel’s Big Brother television show. I want to introduce you all to Tal Gilboa, one of israel’s most prominent animal rights activists and one kick-ass vegan. Big Brother is the most-watched entertainment show in israel and tal has been there the entire season to speak up for the animals. Her activism has had an incredible impact, with a recent poll showing that 49% of viewers have changed their minds regarding animal suffering in the food industry and an incredible 60% saying that they will make a change or have already made a change in their eating habits because of the show. Four of Tal’s 18 roommates from the show including the runner-up also went vegan because of her witness. At one point in the show, Big Brother brought in Tal’s activist friends who showed a video to the tenants about what animals go thorough in the food industry. through They also took all the animal products out of the kitchen and replaced them with vegan options. Now this was a surprise to Tal herself. Here she is speaking about that experience. Tal: "wow, what an experience. I am speechless. I've watched that film so many times. " alien: "it's not easy." tal "no, it's not. But what is easy, is to stop eating eggs. It's easy to stop eating animals, and stop drinking milk. It's simple, and it's easy. And when you realize that that is the price...what else is there left to say? Just choose the right way. You shouldn't be doing that to anyone. It's that simple. You see some people, sitting in the kitchen and yelling: "nobody can tell me what to eat!" they shut their eyes throughout the entire film cause they couldn’t watch. I wasn't watching the film, i was looking at them. They shut their eyes. Miki couldn’t stop crying. Eldad watched the entire film." alien: "i almost cried myself." tal: "there are plenty of reasons to cry. Plenty." alien: "come on, let's go outside and watch them freak out." I’d like to show you a couple clips and let tal to speak for herself. That clip was really tough to watch. Did you see it all, Martine? Or did you shut your eyes? -she closed her eyes. I shut my eyes. I don't like being forced to watch anything, to tell you the truth. Tal: "but what about others being forced?" When you go into a dairy farm and see those baby calved crying for their mothers, just on time, if you see a calf being separated from his mother, you'll see what if looks like when a cow goes crazy. Go to the farmer, and he'll tell you, the only time a cow becomes violent, and those are the gentlest creatures on earth, is when they take her baby away. When you can watch that and say "okay, this is my choice, i choose to continue to let that happen." then i will have nothing more to say. But you aren't even willing to see. There will not be one mother in israel that doesn’t know, that when she gives her child some sort of dairy treat, she's stealing the child of another mother. She's causing another mother the greatest sorrow on earth. Why live at the expense of someone else's suffering, without saying "wait a minute, no, that's not right." you look at here and she seems radical. You think she's radical? She feels like it's her children out there. She feels our brethren suffering. She feels like her children are in cages. I was at the Debach and Adom Adom slaughterhouses, both places. I saw them going in. I accompanied calves as they were taken off the boats at Eilat port, and saw them crying. And heard them. And the scariest thing about hearing the slaughter, is the silence that comes afterwards. Because you know, there was life- and now there isn't. Now the reason that i wanted to share this news with you is that tal and all the incredible activists in israel prove that speaking up for the animals can make a difference. Israel has exploded with vegan options in restaurants and grocery stores in response to the ever-growing vegan demand. Change is possible. Keep speaking up. Keep fighting. We can do this. Now get out there and spread the word. I hope you enjoyed this video and got inspired to take your own action. Please share the video with friends and family to get the word out, give it a thumbs up if you liked it and please subscribe to bite size vegan for more kick-ass vegan content!
