From College Hill to Foggy Bottom: Reflections and Advice from Alumni in Foreign Service
Transcription
Good day! My name is Michael Hoza, and I am deeply honored to be President Barack Obama’s choice as the next U.S. ambassador to the Republic of Cameroon. I am a career officer of the U.S. Foreign Service, having served overseas in Cote d’Ivoire, Mozambique, Erithrea, Swaziland and Kenya. I am exceptionally pleased to be assigned to Cameroon, a country blessed with a rich and varied culture, and world-class talent like Roger Milla and Le Grand Manu Dibango! As ambassador, my fervent hope is to advance the partnership between the governments and the people of the United States and Cameroon. Through trade and investment, we hope to accelerate Cameroon’s participation in the global economy of the 21st century and to expand opportunities for Cameroon’s talented and dynamic youth. Together as partners, we must face and overcome the menacing threats of terrorism and piracy, and the challenge of maintaining peace and stability in the region. And we must care for our people, especially for our children, guarding them from pandemic disease and preventing the spread of debilitating sickness. Finally, we must protect our wildlife from poaching while also preserving Cameroon’s invaluable diversity of flora and fauna. I welcome the opportunity to work with all Cameroonians. Our mutual respect coupled with our shared values and common goals provide the foundation for the bright future we can build together. I want to thank all Cameroonians for their hospitality, and look forward to seeing soon.
