Early life and education

Hazelton was born in Mullica Hill, Gloucester County, New Jersey, on December 10, 1814. He attended the common schools and was a farmer.[1]

He was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1856 and 1868.[1]

Hazelton was elected as a Republican to the Forty-second and Forty-third Congresses, serving in office from March 4, 1871 to March 3, 1875.[1] During his second term, he was elected by a majority of over six thousand; at the time, it was the largest majority ever achieved in the district.[2]
