Description Montage, using ball-and-stick models, of the three steps in an SN2 reaction. Colour is used to emphasise the inversion of stereochemical configuration (Walden inversion) that occurs at the central atom. The green atom is the nucleophile, the red atom is the leaving group and the three orange atoms are substituents.
