Summary

Description
The Dolphin Fountain, Avenham Park. The water fountain set into its dressed stone alcove at the south east of Avenham Park, was an original feature of the park when it was installed in the 1860s as part of the park’s design. The fountain is referred to locally as “the Dolphin Fountain” even though the water feature affixed here from the late 19th century was a sea serpent in character. The fountain became disused by the mid 20th century and the alcove remained empty until 2011 when, as part of the project to restore Avenham and Miller parks to their Victorian grandeur, a replica fountain was crafted and installed. The stone alcove is grade II listed (English Heritage Building ID: 391880).
