Description: America's First Gasolene Buggy Had Its Pulling Test on April 19, 1892, at 47 Taylor St. Springfield, Massachusetts Honors Charles E. Duryea, Founder of the Automobile. This Tablet Erected 1937 by the Kiwanis Club" In Museums in Rockefeller Center, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago and Dearborn, Mich. The Duryea Motor Wagon Co. of Springfield was first U. S. motor car corp., Sept. 21, 1895. Duryea Cars won America's first auto race, Chicago Nov. 28, 1895, America's second race, New York May 30, 1896, and England's first race, London to Brighton Nov. 14, 1896. At the world's first track race, Providence Sept. 1896, they took all prizes for gasoline cars. A three cylinder Duryea won the first Eagle Rock Hill Climb Nov. 5, 1901. #540648 granted to Charles E. Duryea June 11, 1895 antedated the first patents of all other U. S. automobile makers. Barnum's Circus in 1896 featured the Duryea car on billboard, in ring and parade.
