Cache National Forest is a 533,840-acre area of National Forest System land in Idaho and Utah which was established on July 1, 1908, by the U.S. Forest Service. The majority of its area is in Utah, and was initially created when the Bear River National Forest was disbanded. On July 1, 1915, all of Pocatello National Forest was added. In 1973 the Idaho portion was transferred to the administration of Caribou National Forest, while the Utah portion was combined administratively with Wasatch National Forest, creating the Wasatch-Cache National Forest.[1] In descending order of forestland area, the Cache National Forest portion is located in Cache, Bear Lake, Franklin, Weber, Rich, Box Elder, Caribou, and Morgan counties. (Bear Lake, Franklin, and Caribou counties are in Idaho, and the rest in Utah.) The forest has a current area of 701,453 acres (2,838.68 km2), which comprises 43.56% of the combined Wasatch-Cache's total acreage.[2] The forest is administered from Salt Lake City, Utah as part of the Wasatch-Cache National Forest, but there are local ranger district offices in Logan and Ogden.[3] From circa 1911 until August 1923, the area was roamed by Old Ephraim.

Welcome to the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. Our Forest is an intensely used destination spanning from backyards to back country. As a visitor, you can go to natural areas and scenic vistas with clean air and clean water. As a visitor to the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache, you can engage in a variety of activities, including horseback riding, OHV riding, bike riding, camping, fishing, and hunting. Just to name a few of the destinations and activities on 2.1 million acres of forest in Northern Utah. There are however a couple of things I want you to remember when you visit your National Forest. Never leave your campfire unattended and always make sure it is cold to the touch before leaving. Fireworks are never allowed on public lands. And check our website for current information concerning fire restrictions before you head into the woods. Depending where you are recreating, you may run into various critters in the vicinity. These could include skunks, raccoons, squirrels, and even bears. These animals will come into campsites for food. So please remember to keep your campsites clean. Couple other things I want you to remember, never store food or eat in your tent. Make sure you secure your coolers at night and put all of your food into your car or RV. And never put grease or leftover food into the fire pit. The Uinta-Wasatch-Cache has endless miles of multiple-use trails. Depending on which trail you select, you may see horseback riders, hikers, mountain bikers, ATV's or motorcycles. If you're riding your ATV or OHV on the forest, please remember to stick to designated roads and trails and never travel cross country. If you're traveling with livestock, please remember to use only certified weed free hay, straw, or pellets. When you're out on the forest, always carry extra water and food, a flashlight, a whistle, matches, a cell phone, and extra clothing. In case the weather turns or you get lost. And always let someone know where you are going and when you plan to return. Whichever outdoor activity you choose, please be courteous and remember to share your National Forest with other recreationists. Enjoy your visit to the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest and please be safe.
Wilderness areas
There are two officially designated wilderness areas within the former Cache National Forest that are part of the National Wilderness Preservation System.
