Summary

Description
An Iban headhunter wearing a Royal Marine beret holds a human scalp belonging to a suspected member of the Malayan National Liberation Army during Malayan Emergency. Atrocities involving the collection of heads and scalps were common occurrences among British forces and their allies during the Malayan Emergency (1948-1960). This image was sent to Winston Churchill by communist activists belonging to the Daily Worker newspaper. The image was later published in the Daily Worker on the 10th May 1952, in an attempt to turn public opinion against the colonial occupation.
